Hi
I've just installed my brand new SRO-PS-2000INT, and it is VERY noisy! It has a very loud "HMMMMMM" sound, and can be heard from everywhere in the apartment.
I've checked the assembly 3 times, and nothing is wrong there. The parts don't seem to have any damage from shipping eather. I also checked the Pin-Wheel, for being assembled wrong. Still very loud noise.
The pump makes a lot of noise also, when disconnected from the skimmer body, and held in middle of waterline whitout touching anything in my sump.
Do i have a faulty pump? My friends PS-1000 is very low-noise, and was the reason for buying this one.
Regards
Mads

The pumps need time to self lubricate or what we call break in of the motor. With the silicone nitride shaft and bearings the need a little time to wear into each other. My last Bubble Blaster pump on my XP3000ext took 3 weeks before the noise steadily decreased. Now these pumps do have a slight vibration to them which can be amplified in certain environments but you would notice the difference when you where holding it in your hand. Another common source of the noise is for some unknown reason the back bearing located in the back of the pump sometimes gets miss positioned causing a slight skew to the shaft. It should be firmly seated in the back of the pump.

Hi Jeremy
The back bearing is positioned correctly. 3 weeks is a long time with that kind of noise. What i don't understand is that i know 2 people who has a PS-1000 and a PS-3000 - These 2 where almost dead silent from Out-Of-The-Box?
Is the Bubble Blaster HY-2000S pump just a vibrating model? Anything i can do? As it is now, i will have to turn the skimmer of in a short bit of time. I'm simply about to get insane from the noise

I understand 3 weeks is a good amount of time to bear with the noise. I was even at a point to say that the pump was bad on mine after the second week. But come the following week since I didn't get a chance to remove it, the pump ran silent. when we test out the pumps we notice some to take longer than other to break in but they all do within the 3 week range. Also you have to remember, Different size pumps rotate at different speeds causing higher or lower noise. It is just the nature of the material the shaft and bearing are made from but in the end these are the best due to its nature not to collect calcium build up which plagues all other skimmer pumps.

I will try having som patience, and see if it gets more silent over time. Tests and people who owns the PS-1000 and PS-3000 says that the skimmers is allmost dead silent. Should this be the same case for my PS-2000?

Yes, to a degree. I don't consider these pumps dead silent due to the vibration. But like I said if you hold the pump in your hand while on it should be silent. I believe the sound you are hearing is the shaft and the bearings rotating which will lubricate in time.

Holding the pump in my hand while running still makes a "Hummm" noise, that is easy to hear, but not as high as when the skimmer is assembled. I'll give it some time to break in, and hope it works.

When you hold it in your hands is the sound that will disappear. The sound when hooked up to the skimmer is something that the pump/skimmer body is vibrating against. And in certain environments will actually amplify this sound. Some of the vibration will decrease when the bearings and shaft lubricate. I would just let the skimmer break in and make sure that the skimmers body is not up against the wall of the sump. If the skimmer is up against any two surfaces it will increase the sound. You can also add weight to the lid for the first few weeks to keep that from rattling too. which should help out the noise a little till it break in.
