I have linked to one of the first research papers to describe the acrual copepod abundances on coral reefs. It is an easy read, and well worth the effort to do so. The numbers of tiny bugs in the plankton may seem absolutely mind blowing, but on the other hand, given the number of coral mouths on each reef, and given that corals MUST be feeding so that they can exist and grow, such numbers of planktonic animals (which of course = coral foods) should be of no surprise (to anybody but those foolish reef aquarium "authorities" that think that corals don't need to eat).
